First Eggs, detail

First Eggs, detail
colored pencil on paper, 12” x 3”, c. 1960
This is probably the first appearance in my work of the circle/egg symbol, an image which has continuously and spontaneously recurred in my art, in many guises, since then. Interesting to note that in this early childhood drawing, the eggs not only appear, but are being delivered! Everyone has symbols, images, archetypes, sounds, words, gestures, colors, or rhythms which are deeply important or intrinsic, and call for attention and creative engagement.
